to ROGER GREENWAY
@ CALVIN SEMINARY
"Distinguished Professor of Missions
B.D., Th.M. (Calvin Theological Seminary,1958,1963)
Th.D. (Southwestern Baptist Seminary, 1972)
Roger Greenway’s father was a pastor, so he grew up in a parsonage and learned a great deal about the life and work of a minister by “osmosis.” His wife, Edna C. Beebe, was also a pastor’s daughter, so she knew what she was getting into when she married him.
Missions, evangelism, and caring for churches new and old were their life from the time they were married. They started out in Asia, later went to Latin America, and after a period of teaching Urban Missions and Evangelism at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, Roger became Executive Director of World Ministries of the Christian Reformed Church. After settling back in North America, Edna finished her Ph.D. in Adult Education and taught for 25 years at Calvin College.
Roger lectured at seminaries in many parts of the world, and spent ten years on the Calvin Theological Seminary faculty teaching missiology from 1990 to 2001. In 2003, he was Missionary in Residence at the Overseas Ministries Study Center and Research Fellow at Yale Divinity School, both in New Haven, CT. He brings his vast experience in teaching, missions, and church planting to students at CTS as he continues to teach in the areas of missions and global church planting.
"I am convinced that our school provides students with excellent opportunities to master the basics of Reformed theology along with readiness for practical ministries."
Roger and Edna have five children, born in three different parts of the world, and 18 grandchildren. One of their grandsons recently enrolled at CTS and they could not be more pleased. Their greatest joy is that all their children love the Lord Jesus and are involved in Christian ministries in North America and overseas. Roger enjoys fishing, and their two Labrador Retrievers."

Calvin P. Van Reken
"Professor of Moral Theology (1991)A.B. (Calvin College, 1971)
M.A. (University of Chicago, 1972)
M.Div. (Calvin Theological Seminary, 1981)
Ph.D. (University of Chicago, 1986)
Calvin Van Reken is an ordained minister in the Christian Reformed Church. He has served as pastor at two churches, Momence Christian Reformed Church, Momence IL (1982 - 1986) and Peace Christian Reformed Church, South Holland IL (1986 - 1991). Calvin has taught various philosophy and theology courses at Harper College, Calvin College, Trinity Christian College, Calvin Theological Seminary, Western Theological Seminary, and in Limuru, Kenya. He served as member and president of the board of the Back to God Hour and has published articles and devotional materials dealing with moral issues, worship, and the church.
"My own area of special interest is ethics-the study of morality. In teaching about moral matters, I stress that our salvation does not rest on our obedience to moral rules. Rather, our desire to know God's will and obey it arises as a result of the saving grace that is ours through faith in Jesus Christ. I continually try to understand more completely how we can best live in response to all we are and have in Jesus Christ. God's people are confronted with many difficult choices and they need guidance in making them. For examples: is in vitro fertilization a morally permitted way to conceive a child? Or, may I work for a corporation when its policies are harming the environment? My prayer is that I will be effectively used by the Lord to equip students in understanding more fully how God wants us to live."
Calvin is married to Rosella and they have three daughters - Rebecca Rose, Erica Ruth and Marissa Joy. ,"

MERRY CHRISTMAS to BOB DEVRIES @ CALVIN SEMINARY, GRAND RAPIDS, MI

Robert De Vries
Professor of Church Education and Director of the Master of Arts Programs (1977)
A.B. (Calvin College, 1963)
B.D. (Calvin Theological Seminary, 1967)
Th.M. (Calvin Theological Seminary, 1973)
D.Min. (McCormick Theological Seminary, 1983)
Ph.D. (Michigan State University, 1987)
Prof. DeVries ("Bob" as he is known to everyone) began serving Calvin Theological Seminary as the Coordinator of Field Education in 1977 and moved into Church Education a decade later. Raised in Grand Rapids by parents who were both educators (the Science Hall on the Calvin Campus is named in honor of his father "Doc" DeVries), both Calvin and education are in his blood. He has served the seminary and the Christian Reformed Church in a number of key positions, serving on denominational and school boards as well as teaching internationally. He has written a basic textbook in Church Education published in France (Transmettre la Foi) and has developed training materials through the seminary's Timothy Institute designed to equip national pastors in Africa in training others in the church's educational ministry.
"As I approach my retirement from full time teaching at Calvin Theological Seminary in July, 2005, I am still energized by the number of students whom God has called into a specialized educational ministry. I am convinced that the church's ministry to her children, youth and young adults is critical to the vitality and future of the church. We must aggressively meet the challenge of the radical cultural shifts in North America as well as the globalization of the world. The electronic and media revolution forces us all to think "outside the box" about our ministry methods while staying faithful to our Biblical foundation. More than ever, the church needs creative and dedicated youth pastors committed to their calling."
Bob had been married for twenty-eight years to his first wife, Charlene, before she died of ovarian cancer. Together they had three children. He remarried four years later to Susan Zonnebelt-Smeenge, a licensed clinical psychologist who had also been widowed. Together they have developed an intense educational and pastoral ministry to those who are dying and bereaved, and to pastoral and medical care-givers. They speak internationally for organizations such as The National Funeral Directors Association, American Association of Christian Counselors, and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. Together they have written three books on dying and grief: Getting to the Other Side of Grief: Overcoming the Loss of a Spouse (1998), The Empty Chair: Handling Grief on Holidays and Special Occasions (2001), and Living Fully in the Shadow of Death: Assurance and Guidance to Finish Well (2004).
